Otis announces switch on of solar-powered Florence, SC facility
February 26, 2018 - Otis’s facility in Florence, SC announced the “switch on” of a new solar field that will produce more than 1.8 million kilowatt hours of power annually, nearly 25 percent of the facility’s annual power requirements.
The installation is part of Otis’ sustainability efforts and is anticipated to beat the Florence facility’s five-year greenhouse gas emissions reduction goal of 15 percent, compared to 2015 energy consumption, by year three.
Otis President Judy Marks and Otis Americas President Tom Vining participated in an employee event today celebrating this sustainable power source, with a ceremonial throwing of the switch. The panels are scheduled to go into operation in March.
The 500,000-square-foot facility brings together Otis’ North American manufacturing, engineering, contract logistics and field support in a single location. The facility features a 150-foot test tower with six hoistways, where Otis develops and tests new technologies that keep the company at the forefront of the industry.
Otis employs more than 600 people in its Florence facility who speak more than 11 languages and represent 14 countries.
