Description

The course is based on hundreds of successful alarm improvement projects and an extensive knowledge base about the topic.

The following basic concepts are covered: history of alarm problem, development and contents of an alarm philosophy, alarm system performance analysis, solutions to common alarm problems, alarm documentation and rationalization, the master alarm database and management of change.

Advanced topics to be covered include: state-based alarms, alarm shelving and alarm flood suppression; automated auditing and enforcement of alarm settings; advanced depiction of alarms; and alarm documentation in graphic displays.

The ISA-18.2 Alarm Management Standard is addressed, using practical methods for compliance.

Finally, The High Performance HMI Overview concerns the proper design of graphic depictions used for process control. It covers the history of the poor graphic practices commonly in use, the display of information rather than raw data, the principles of graphic hierarchy, and a real-world proof test of High Performance HMI concepts.

Our instructor's company, PAS, was a voting member of the ISA committee that developed ISA-18.2 and has contributed to all six of the technical reports ISA is issuing about the standard.
