HERMES AWARD 2013 candidates sought

October 16, 2012 - Hannover. Companies and organizations exhibiting at HANNOVER MESSE 2013 can now submit their product innovations for the HERMES AWARD. This technology prize is one of the most prestigious industrial awards in the world. All of the products submitted must be commercially viable and/or already have a proven track record in industrial application. The prize will be awarded in recognition of products that excel in terms of outstandingly innovative technology and cost-effectiveness. The deadline for entries is 7 February 2013.

"The HERMES AWARD will be celebrating its tenth anniversary in 2013 and we can take pride in the fact that it has achieved such international esteem across industry as a hallmark for innovation. Nominees and winners alike benefit from international interest in the competition and can expect to gain new business leads from all over the world as a result of their participation. At the same time the award provides industry with a vital guide to the latest technological trends and innovative developments. The HERMES AWARD has long since been recognized as a trend-setter and driving force behind new business at HANNOVER MESSE. We look forward to some exciting entries from our exhibitors and many promising innovations", says Dr. Jochen Köckler, member of the Board at Deutsche Messe AG.

The winning entries will be selected by an independent panel of judges chaired by Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Wahlster, Director and Chairman of the Management of the German Centre for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI). The companies that reach the final round will be announced during the opening ceremony of HANNOVER MESSE 2013 on 7 April, when the winner will be presented with the award in grand style by the German Minister for Education and Research, Prof. Dr. Annette Schavan, in the presence of German Chancellor Dr. Angela Merkel.

All of the products in the final round of the 2013 HERMES AWARD will be exhibited in the Research & Technology area in Hall 2 at HANNOVER MESSE from 8-12 April 2013.

The Blomberg-based company Phoenix Contact was the winner of the HERMES AWARD at HANNOVER MESSE 2012. The winning entry was a system which measures lightning surges in lightning conductors and conveys operational status evaluations via Internet to a remote diagnostics control centre. Lightning strikes are responsible for most incidents of damage to wind turbine rotor blades. This groundbreaking system facilitates continuous monitoring and ensures that maintenance work can be commenced immediately.
