PTO offers Free PROFINET 2007 Developer Workshops

Scottsdale, AZ - March 16, 2007 - The PTO announces free, one-day PROFINET Developer Workshops to be held in 2007 on May 22 in Detroit, MI, July 31 in Scottsdale, AZ and a date to be determined in October in Boston, MA. The May 22 Workshop will be held at the Detroit Marriott Troy Hotel, and the July 31 Workshop will be held at the Scottsdale Marriott at McDowell Mountains.

The Workshops will run from 8 am to 5:30 pm and will provide potential PROFINET device developers, development managers and product marketers with a wide range of technical information, including PROFINET vendor presentations to help them select the best tools to develop their PROFINET compatible products faster and more efficiently.

“Choosing the right tool can dramatically speed a device manufacturer’s time to market,” said Carl Henning, Deputy Director of the PTO. “The workshops will provide attendees with technical information that will enable them to develop products faster, and allow them to meet and talk with a variety of PROFINET development tool vendors. Industrial Ethernet is a continually growing force in factory automation and we want developers to be completely knowledgeable about the latest tools so that they can successfully integrate Ethernet into their products.”

The workshops will kick off with an overview of Industrial Ethernet by industry expert Harry Forbes who will also speak about the explosive growth of this technology. Carl Henning will then provide an introduction to PROFINET and provide a high-level look at various applications and the types of tools available to address them.

The PTO has also assembled the major suppliers of PROFINET development tools in one room so potential users can select the development tools that best fulfill their requirements. Presentations will be given by Hilscher North America, Inc., HMS Industrial Networks, Inc., Siemens Energy & Automation, Real Time Automation, Softing North America, Comtrol and IXXAT. Presenters will also be available at exhibit tables for more detailed discussions.

The PROFINET Developer Workshops are entirely free of cost or obligation. A continental breakfast, lunch and an end-of-day hosted bar will be provided, plus door prizes will be awarded.

PROFINET is the leading Industrial Ethernet standard and the only single-network solution for factory and process automation, discrete and motion control, vertical and horizontal integration and safety. It includes plant-wide fieldbus communication, plant-to-office communication and equipment-to-equipment integration including integration of most existing fieldbuses. PROFINET can simultaneously handle standard TCP/IP transmissions and real-time transmissions at sub-millisecond speeds. PROFINET embraces industry standards like Ethernet, TCP/IP, XML and OPC.

The PTO is the non-profit, member-supported automation organization for communication solutions. It is dedicated to supporting the discrete and process industries in achieving beneficial results using fieldbuses, specifically PROFIBUS and PROFINET. The PTO also assists device manufacturers in the development and marketing of PROFIBUS and PROFINET products. Covering North America, PTO is one of 25 regional associations that make up PI (PROFIBUS and PROFINET International). Established in 1989, PI has over 1400 members, who have developed and now supply more than 2500 types of devices. To date, more than 18,000,000 devices have been installed.
