RENEX South America report

December 10, 2013 - RENEX South America, which premiered November 27–29, 2013 in Porto Alegre, Brazil, will lead to $44 million of new business in the South American renewable energy market during the next 12 months. The projection is based upon on-site surveys conducted by the event’s organizer, Hannover Fairs Sulamérica.

RENEX South America hosted 46 companies demonstrating products and technologies for the wind, photovoltaic, solar thermal, biofuels, biogas, biomass, and small hydro plants (SHPs) sectors and attracted 3,250 trade visitors from eight countries.

“Electricity usage in Brazil is expected to grow 5 percent annually in the coming years. In order to keep up with this demand, Brazil will have to increase energy production by 50 percent during the next 10 years, and much of that will come from renewables,” said Dr. Andreas Gruchow, Member of the Managing Board, Deutsche Messe AG. “With RENEX South America we have established a platform that highlights the many business opportunities in one of the world’s most promising renewable energy markets.”

“Investing in renewable energies should be part of any Government’s commitment,” said Ivan de Pellegrin, President of the Development and Investment Promotion Agency of the State of Rio Grande do Sul. “In our case, we went even further and included two of these sources, wind and biofuels, among 23 strategic sectors of our industrial policy. RENEX itself represents this commitment.”

RENEX South America’s supporting program was anchored by the RENEX Congress, which covered topics ranging from bioenergy, consumption and small hydro to financing, policy and production. Special events included the EuPD Research Conference on photovoltaic and solar thermal challenges, opportunities and trends; an IDEAL (Institute for Developing Alternative Energy in Latin America) panel on developing photovoltaic generation in Brazil; RENEX Business Matchmaking, which brought together 43 companies for a total of 136 meetings; and guided technical tours of a pilot plant for biomethane production and the Osório complex, Latin America’s largest wind farm.

RENEX South America is organized by Hannover Fairs Sulamérica, Deutsche Messe’s subsidiary in Brazil, and is Latin America’s showcase for the latest products, technologies, innovations, and investment opportunities in renewable energy. The event is supported by the Secretariat of Promotion and Development of Rio Grande do Sul (SPDI), the Rio Grande do Sul Agency of Development and Investment Promotion (AGDI), the Brazilian Wind Energy Association (ABEeólica), the German Engineering Federation (VDMA), and the German Wind Energy Association (BWE).

RENEX South America 2014 is scheduled for November 26–28 at the FIERGS Exhibition and Convention Centre in Porto Alegre.
