ABB to Deliver its Largest Installation of Operate IT SCADA Vision and Telecommunication Systems for Sinovensa

Caracas, Venezuela, August 17, 2004 - ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, will deliver its leading edge Industrial IT automation solutions to Sinovensa, joint venture company of PDVSA and PetroChina, to produce Orimulsion, an extra heavy oil used to fire power plants, for export from Venezuela to China.

The scope of supply is comprised of an Operate IT SCADA Vision system, telecommunication system, AC 800M controllers with Process Panels, and
Safeguard 415 safety systems. The order also includes engineering, detailed design, project management, configuration, construction, installation, training, test, commissioning, start-up and service.

ABB's solution will help Sinovensa to meet safety and regulatory compliance, optimize fiscal metering and improve the efficiency of Orimulsion production.. Orimulsion is produced under a process patented by PDVSA and was developed to exploit the extra heavy oil reserves in the Orinoco region of Venezuela "We have chosen ABB for its global presence, support, and expertise which will be crucial over next ten years," said Bob Hooper, Sinovensa Project Manager.
