Baumüller Introduces Sophisticated Direct Drive Technology
Baumüller continues to play a pioneering role in the area of direct drive technology

Nuremberg/Hartford. The high-performance high-torque motors (DSTs) from Baumüller are a powerful alternative to geared motors. In standard form, they typically find application in printing presses or in extruders in the plastics industry. What's more, they require very little maintenance.

Since 1991, Baumüller has been a trailblazer in the area of direct drive technology. The success achieved by the Nuremberg-based automation company is clearly reflected in its unique selling propositions: the motors offer high torque at low speeds.

Given that customers continuously require greater productivity and flexibility, improved process controllability, enhanced availability and a longer service life, greater consideration should, in future, be given to the utilisation of electric direct drives in modern production equipment. Baumüller makes maximum use of the advantages of direct drive technology in the industrial environment: the new generation of drive controllers b maXX and the high-torque DTS motors play an instrumental role here. A modular, open and scalable controller architecture and a simple but yet highly efficient winding technology coupled with an effective motor cooling process pave the way for optimal drive configuration for a wide range of applications.

The low maintenance, low energy consumption direct drive technology from Baumüller is characterised, above all, by compact motor units that offer high running quality, high dynamic response and positioning accuracy in the drive system.

Elasticity, play and backlash are avoided due to the fact that interconnected mechanical components are no longer required. The utilisation of the minimum number of mechanical components not only enhances the dynamic response qualities of the machine but also significantly reduces wear and idle times. In addition, the price trend in the electronics and sensor technology areas is also conducive to the cost-effective utilisation of electric direct drives in the industrial environment.
