Baumüller Introduces Technology Module for Dosing Applications
Baumüller sets a new trend in packaging

Nuremberg/Hartford. The drive manufacturer Baumüller presents an innovative all-in automation solution for the packaging industry: a technology module for dosing applications which is available separate from the packaging machine.

Rovema Verpackungsmaschinen GmbH is, for the very first time, manufacturing a dosing device that can be supplied independently of the packaging machine. To achieve this, the company employed Baumüller technology. Baumüller had to meet the following requirements: it must be possible to operate the dosing device autonomously of a packaging line and the device must also function in stand-alone operation. In addition, integration into the existing packaging line must be possible with relatively little engineering effort.

The scalable, modular, decentralized drive and automation system b maXX from Baumüller represents the ideal solution. Thanks to the integration of world's fastest in-drive PLC namely, the Drive PLC, this automation solution satisfies all requirements. The dosing device is operated locally via a scalable b maXX HMI. When integrating the dosing device into the packaging line, data is transferred to the higher and lower-ranking units via Ethernet and OPS server.

The new technology that has been developed by Baumüller for this dosing device will also pave the way for the enhancement of the existing technology modules - such as the flying saw - with a further important function. The dosing device is a new software module that enhances Baumüller's existing technology function pool in a purposeful manner. The new module rounds off industry-oriented know-how on, for example, the cam controller for the packaging industry or the winding technique employed in the printing industry.

The economic benefits for the customer are numerous: this customized technology module will lead to a significant reduction in the end-user's engineering costs.
