Watertown, CT, November 23, 2004…Bristol Babcock announces addition of a new pressure range for the 3808 MVT multivariable, smart transmitter. An upper range limit (URL) of 4000 psi is now available in the multivariable model that also includes measurement of differential pressure and process temperature.

This new range is driven by natural gas production applications. Striving to keep pace with demand, the industry is exploiting new sources, including coal bed methane, which typically requires drilling to relatively shallow depths, and conventional formations, which are deeper. As the industry taps increasingly deeper sources, higher operating pressures are encountered.

Often, the operating pressures for deep wells are beyond the URL’s offered by many multivariable transmitters. The 4000 psi URL allows a producer or gatherer to install a flow measurement system on a well that has a higherthan-usual operating pressure. The 3808 MVT provides measurement of all three variables necessary for the differential metering that is usually employed at well sites.

The 3808 MVT offers many other advantages for production wells. The very low current draw, less than 2 mA in most applications, is compatible with the solar power systems that are commonly used in remote locations. The 3808 MVT also provides excellent measurement accuracy for all three variables over all operating conditions.

The 3808 MVT is also network-compatible with practically all controller and RTU devices in the industry. It interfaces with such products via either RS 485 or FSK using the BSAP or Modbus protocols in a bilingual mode— the transmitter responds to messages in either protocol.
