Endress+Hauser Announces Revolutionary Digital pH Sensors

November 012005
Greenwood, Indiana – Endress+Hauser, Inc. announces a revolution in pH technology, Memosens digital pH sensors. These unique digital sensors are the first on the market today and offer a simply safe, reliable, informative, and user-friendly alternative to the problematic analog sensors of yesterday. The launch of Endress+Hauser’s innovative Memosens digital pH sensors sets new standards of accuracy and reliability in pH measurement.

Simply Safe: Memosens eliminates the causes of all problems in sensor plug-in technology. These digital sensors offer the first pH measuring point with real galvanic isolation. The inductive signal transmission from cable coupling to sensor plug-in head is absolutely insensitive to moisture and soiling and guarantees correct measured values even if connected underwater! By digitalizing measured values from sensor to cable via completely sealed-in coils, maximum process safety is achieved.

Simply Reliable: Memosens with its safe connector system enabling inductive data transmission eliminates measuring accuracy problems based on the following: corrosion, contacting problems, salt bridges, moisture, leakages, high impedance connection, and ground loops. In the event the signal flow is interrupted, safety of the data is protected through the digital data transmission by automatic error messages alerting personnel immediately.

Simply Informative: Sensors with Memosens technology have integrated electronics that allow the ability to save calibration data and further information such as hours of operation, minimum and maximum pH values, and minimum and maximum temperature. When the sensor is mounted, the calibration data is automatically transferred to the transmitter and used to calculate the current pH value. The data is thus available where it is needed. Data traceability and history documentation is facilitated, and the use of data for the determination of maintenance intervals is also possible.

Simply User-Friendly: The digital pH sensors can be calibrated under optimum external conditions in the measuring lab, which promotes easy handling. Wind and water do not affect the calibration quality or the operator. The measuring point availability is dramatically increased by the quick and easy replacement of precalibrated sensors. The sensors identify themselves within the application so that each measuring point recognises its individual sensor. Measuring point down-time is dramatically reduced which is especially important for sensitive processes. The transmitter does not need to be installed close to the measuring point but can be placed in the control room.

These revolutionary digital sensors also offer cost saving potential. Sensors that had to be thrown away in the past can now be checked and regenerated, e.g. by suitable cleaning, under optimum conditions in the laboratory, considerably increasing sensor lifetime in the process.

Memosens sensors are available for hazardous and non-hazardous areas. They comply with all common standards such as EHEDG, 3A, 21CFR 11, SIL2, CE, ATEX, FM, FDA, etc.

The Endress+Hauser Group is a global leader in the provision of measurement instrumentation and automation solutions for industrial process engineering. The company is a Swiss family business and consists of a network of legally independent companies, managed and coordinated by a holding company in Reinach, Switzerland. The group comprises 72 companies in 37 countries, which operate 19 production centers in Switzerland, Germany, France, the UK, Italy, China, Japan, India and the USA. At the end of 2003, Endress+Hauser employed 6,077 people, generating 976.9 million in sales and a profit of 48.1 million. The company's growth is due to a culture of innovation - in 2003, Endress+Hauser took out a patent for 157 innovations.

With a wide range of sensors, instruments, systems and services, Endress+Hauser covers the areas of level, flow, pressure, temperature, analysis and recording. The range also includes the connection of field appliances to mainframe processing systems using fieldbuses and automation and logistical solutions. The products manufactured by Endress+Hauser set the standard in reliability, availability, quality and technology. Customers come primarily from the chemical, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, food & beverage, water & wastewater, paper, energy and oil & gas sectors. They optimize their process engineering procedures with support from Endress+Hauser while taking into consideration environmental protection, safety and economic efficiency.

Endress+Hauser was founded in 1953 by Georg H. Endress and Ludwig Hauser. Since 1975, the Endress family has had sole ownership of the Group. In 1995, Klaus Endress took over the management of the Group from his father. In more than 50 years since its foundation, the company has developed organically from being ‘specialists in level measurement’ to ‘providers of complete solutions for industrial measuring technology and automation’. As well as adding innovative products and services to extend the range, new markets have been continually opened up. Competent employees and partners guarantee sales and quality service in every country.
