eWON opens office in Japan

November 19, 2013 –eWON opened a subsidiary in Japan. This involves setting up shop in a market that not only has a very specific culture, but is also occupied by a large number of machine manufacturers.

eWON Japan was officially inaugurated by Serge Bassem, CEO and co-founder of eWON. 'Japan is a very important market in the world of automation. Many machine manufacturers and system integrators—our customers—have assembly lines or even their company headquarters there. By opening this subsidiary, we can be in direct contact with them.'

Martin Rolland has been appointed as the head of eWON Japan. This Frenchman is a fully-trained electrical engineer who has worked for the French embassy in Tokyo, amongst other jobs. He has lived in the Japanese archipelago for many years, and is thoroughly familiar with Japanese culture and customs. 'Japanese companies are not really inclined to work with suppliers that do not have offices in Japan,' he explains. 'And the market is fairly conservative. Here, even more so than in other countries, any new idea must be very thoroughly tried and tested before it will be accepted. On top of that, fears about security and intrusion into a company's internal network are even stronger in Japanese industry than elsewhere. In this context, eWON's flagship technical solution, Talk2M, a cloud-based secure VPN communication tunnel between the operator and the PLC, definitely provides added value for this market.

eWON is confident of finding success in the Land of the Rising Sun. 'On the one hand, our industrial router hardware solutions and software, including Talk2M, have a reputation in the automation sector based on their quality, simplicity, and reliability,' says Serge Bassem. 'On the other hand, we are entering a market where there is strong demand but still very little competition, because there are no other solutions quite like ours.'

In Japan, eWON will adopt the sales model that the company has already implemented for its subsidiary in the USA. 'We have decided not to work with an exclusive distributor for the whole country. We already have several interesting contacts, and we hope to finalise the first sales very soon,' concludes Serge Bassem on a positive note.
