Fiberbyte Releases Real-Time USB Control Platform

March 172010
Fiberbyte, an Australian manufacturer of PC control platforms and fiber-optic test equipment has announced the release of its USB-inSync control platform. The heart of the platform is the OEM board that enables quick and easy connection of hardware to a PC's USB port with real time performance capabilities. Fiberbyte's patent pending USB-inSync technology allows OEM manufacturers and system integrators to quickly and easily integrate data acquisition and control automation hardware with USB connectivity. In addition they get the real-time multi-channel performance of more expensive industrial platforms for no extra cost.

The USB-inSync platform features multi-channel triggering and real-time sampling capabilities with nano-second phase-lock accuracy. Multiple I/O devices fitted with USB-inSync OEM boards can be synchronized to within 5 nanoseconds of each other using standard off-the-shelf USB products. USB-inSync boards are fully compatible with all USB1.1 and USB2 controller ports, expansion hubs and cables. Now for the first time test & automation manufacturers can use the ubiquitous USB bus for multi-channel PC control and data-acquisition instead of relying on specialized hi-end internal backplanes like GPIB and PXI.

Fiberbyte CEO Adam Weigold commented that “USB-inSync eliminates the cost of the expansion backplane for multi-channel data-acquisition systems. Now rack mounting I/O devices becomes an option instead of a necessity, and distributed I/O formats up to 25 meters become feasible using the same devices. As 100% of PC’s now have USB ports the customer has less dependency on embedded system controllers, ultimately providing further cost savings and increased flexibility”.

Fiberbyte has also released new OEM development kits for quickly implementing the USB-inSync OEM board into an existing range of I/O devices. The development kits allow for quick integration of hardware to PC's with real time performance. They come supplied with USB boards, cables, expansion hubs, software drivers and easy to understand instructions. Useful examples are also included to help get users started in the world of real-time USB. Development kits are an easy and affordable USB implementation option – even for customers who don't require the advanced timing, sampling and control features of USB-inSync.
