Flowserve Announces 10-Year Standard Warranty For The Limitorque SMB Electric Actuator Series
Industry-first provides unprecedented risk and asset management, and ROI of up to 300%

DALLAS - July 19, 2004 - Flowserve Corp., a global provider of fluid motion and control products and services, announces that it is now supporting its premier Limitorque SMB electric actuator line with a 10-year standard warranty. The warranty term is unprecedented in the flow control industry, and sets a new benchmark in asset management.

"The 10-year SMB limited warranty is an example of how we are responding to an industry demand for control over life-cycle costs and smarter asset management," says John Jacko, Flowserve vice president of marketing and communications. "It gives our customers an easier-to-calculate ROI, and minimized risk with long-term cost savings." The new Limitorque SMB standard warranty program is in line with Flowserve's commitment to cradle-to-grave support for its customers, according to Jacko.

The Limitorque SMB 10-year warranty offers the benefits of hassle-free, OEM-guaranteed spare parts; guaranteed Flowserve field and shop maintenance; a reduced risk of downtime; and protection from the punitive costs associated with in-line failure.

Purchasing SMB actuators is an effective hedge against long-term price fluctuations and inflation. Though the upfront cost of an SMB actuator may be higher than that of competing products, the SMB offers a proven life cycle of 30 years, compared to just 10 years for less expensive models. Factoring in the replacement and maintenance costs and the typical one-year warranty period of competing products, the SMB can yield a remarkable 300% ROI — a compelling economic justification for choosing an SMB instead of an initially cheaper competitor.

The Limitorque SMB electric actuator is the preferred choice for critical service applications including public utilities such as power, water and wastewater. It is ideal for projects that require longevity and stability in the system design and operation.

Post-warranty service and maintenance costs in these markets have been expensive and difficult to predict. Plant managers have had to pay for on-site maintenance and travel expenses associated with product failure. These expenses are compounded if non-proprietary spare parts are used in Limitorque SMB actuators and result in an increasingly unacceptable risk of failure. That risk can be directly attributed to the reverse engineering techniques of the retrofit market. Those hidden problems and the risk of failure they create can offset any savings and may lead to costs well beyond the initial purchase price.

Jim Halligan, director of automation sales and development, Flowserve Flow Control, believes that the new program is a powerful incentive for customers to consider an SMB purchase as the smart alternative to competing actuators.

"This warranty is a decisive backing of Flowserve's commitment to offer quality and measurable value as well as demonstrating our ongoing partnership with our customers," says Halligan. "Our goal is to assist clients in avoiding potentially damaging economic decisions and to enhance the overall value of buying genuine Flowserve Flow Control service and parts built to OEM tolerances and specifications."

The Flowserve Limitorque SMB standard warranty is limited and only applies to commercial applications in North America. Available directly from Flowserve Limitorque or through its extensive distributor network, the warranty does not apply to actuators for U.S. Navy and nuclear service.
