FORTUNE magazine names Invensys vice president, Peter Martin a

FOXBORO, MASSACHUSETTS, USA – March 29, 2002 – FORTUNE magazine has selected Peter G. Martin, PhD, as a “Hero of U.S. Manufacturing.” Dr. Martin is vice president of marketing at the Invensys Production Management division, headquartered in Foxboro, Massachusetts. According to Gene Bylinsky, editor of FORTUNE’s Industrial Management & Technology section, manufacturing heros are individuals who, through innovation and entrepreneurship, have slashed costs, speeded automation, and developed products of exceptional quality and reliability.

Martin was selected for his patented Dynamic Performance Measures approach. Dynamic Performance Measures, or “DPMs,” provide process control operators in industrial manufacturing plants (refineries, chemical plants, power plants, food and beverage plants, etc.) with immediate feedback on how their actions impact plant profitability, in effect, “Turning workers into profit watchdogs.” This is the title of Mr. Bylinsky’s article. The text can be viewed on-line at www.fortune.com/imt. The complete article appeared in FORTUNE’s March 18, 2002 Industrial Management & Technology supplement, which goes to more than 200,000 executives in the industrial sector.

According to FORTUNE, companies that have adopted Martin’s DPM approach report striking results. These include helping Dynergy Midstream Services reduce operating expenses by $58 million and maintenance costs by $7 million the first year and helping India’s Reliance Corporation save millions of dollars at its world-scale Jamnagar refinery and integrated petrochemicals complex.

A resident of Carver, Massachusetts, Martin joined The Foxboro Company (now part of the Production Management division of Invensys plc) in the 1970s and worked in a variety of positions in training, engineering, product planning, marketing and strategic planning. He later became a vice president at the ARC Advisory Group in Dedham, MA, before returning to Invensys in 1996, where he currently serves as a vice president of marketing for the Production Management division. Dr. Martin has B.A. and M.S. degrees in Mathematics, an M.A. degree in Administration and Management, and a Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering.
