Foxboro Demonstrates New I/A Series Process Control and Fieldbus Capabilities at ISA 2004

Over $150 million in orders booked for recently introduced I/A Series products


HOUSTON, TEXAS, USA (ISA 2004 Conference and EXPO) – October 5, 2004 – The Foxboro unit of Invensys Process Systems is demonstrating new I/A Series system capabilities at ISA EXPO Booth 1616 in Houston, October 5-7, 2004. These advanced capabilities include high-availability Mesh process control network technology; plus powerful new field-mounted process controllers, new field device integrators, and new optionally redundant FOUNDATION fieldbus H1 I/O (input/output) modules. Foxboro is also demonstrating significantly enhanced “drag and drop” system configuration tools. Taken as a whole, these powerful new capabilities represent a complete re-invention of the I/A Series automation system, which is arguably the worlds most proven, continuously supported automation platform currently available.

To date, Foxboro has already received well over $150 million dollars in bookings for these new I/A Series products – known collectively as I/A Series Version 8.0 – from customers around the world. These customers represent a wide variety of industries including Power, Upstream Oil and Gas, Refining, Petrochemicals, Specialty Chemicals, and Pulp and Paper.

New I/A Series system technology being demonstrated at ISA includes:
* The world’s first Mesh network process control system backbone utilizing high-performance commercial technology in high-availability, self-healing industrial configurations. With one gigabit performance (between routers), this advanced network technology eliminates throughput constraints - even for today’s data intensive, fieldbus-enabled applications
* Extra rugged and compact field-mounted control processors distribute full I/A Series integrated control capabilities right out to the process to reduce costly control room space requirements. New, high-resolution time stamping capabilities are available for both analog data (10 millisecond resolution) and discrete data (one millisecond resolution), synchronized to one millisecond across the system
* New field device integrator I/O modules make it easier and more cost-effective than ever to seamlessly integrate third-party devices into the I/A Series system via OPC, Modbus, ControlLogix, and other popular communications protocols. Simplex and redundant configurations are available to meet specific availability requirements
* New, optionally redundant FOUNDATION fieldbus H1 interface modules with integrated redundant power conditioning and termination strips simplify the integration of H1 fieldbus segments into the I/A Series system
* Enhanced, drag-and-drop system configuration tools simplify the creation of powerful unit- and plant-level control strategies, including control strategies that seamlessly integrate FOUNDATION fieldbus blocks with the powerful and well-proven control blocks resident in I/A Series control processors
