GE Fanuc Automation and Symbion Systems Sign Exclusive Agreement to Provide Comprehensive PAT Solution to the Life Sciences Industry

Charlottesville, Va. - March 2006 - To further assist Life Sciences companies in maximizing their return on investments and improve their manufacturing operations, GE Fanuc Automation and Symbion Systems announce an exclusive global agreement to deliver comprehensive Process Analytical Technology (PAT) solutions worldwide. The unique GE Fanuc and Symbion solution allows for unprecedented production connectivity, data collection and analysis and provides a solid foundation for companies seeking to better understand and improve their processes.

“This exclusive agreement will allow GE Fanuc to extend our already proven capabilities in delivering best-in-class solutions to Life Science customers,” said Larry Ambrose, Global Director of Life Sciences for GE Fanuc Automation.

Symbion Systems brings a wealth of knowledge of the process and Life Sciences industries and a deep understanding of analytical instrumentation and process analysis software. Combined with GE Fanuc’s proven automation record, end-to-end solutions that deliver connectivity, quality and productivity, and large installed base in the Life Sciences industry, the solution becomes even more powerful.

“As GE Fanuc further develops solutions based on the Symbion technology, we will be integrating them into the Proficy™ platform extending the already robust capabilities of Proficy Historian with new data models and visualization tools specifically for the pharmaceutical industry,” Ambrose continued.
Process Analytical Technology (PAT) is a system for designing, analyzing and controlling manufacturing through timely measurements of critical quality and performance attributes of raw and in-process materials. The goal of PAT is to ensure final product quality.

Together, GE Fanuc and Symbion Systems are providing a road map for organizations that want to deploy a PAT solution aimed at Process Understanding:
  • Standardized control and networking of multiple instruments
  • Preprocessing of captured analytical data
  • Robust plant data archiving and repository
  • Extensive methods development
  • Interfaces to commercially-available chemometrics packages
  • Designed for 21 CFR Part 11 Compliance

“The GE Fanuc and Symbion alliance will offer customers a broad range of products and services, including solution design and piloting, implementation, and post-implementation support,” said Dr. Michael Doyle, president and CEO for Symbion Systems, Inc. “The two companies collectively bring proven experience and extensive knowledge in the areas of domain expertise, strategy, IT, process and operational excellence to tailor solutions for PAT deployments, building upon a client's existing technology and systems.”
