New Solutions Improve Machine Availability, Performance and Output Quality

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – June 8, 2004 – GE Fanuc Automation Americas, Inc., a unit of GE Infrastructure, will showcase its latest technologies and services to improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) – at the Emerging Technology Center, IMTS 2004, September 8-15, Chicago, Booth S1000. With new product demonstrations and actual application examples, the GE Fanuc booth will highlight the three key contributors to OEE – Availability, Performance and Quality – and how they combine in a best-in-class plant to achieve operational excellence. Additionally, GE Fanuc will highlight i CELLTMOEE Shop Floor Intelligence software throughout the booth – which provides drill down intelligence at the machine line or cell level and is a key measuring tool for plant operations. This software solution offers connectivity to equipment and delivers detailed reporting on OEE, ultimately helping manufacturers improve asset utilization through an understanding of shop floor dynamics.

Availability
Manufacturing plants can improve machine availability both by reducing set up time and decreasing the amount of downtime as a result of equipment breakdowns. In this area, GE Fanuc will demonstrate how manufacturers can improve machine availability through the use of integrated probing solutions, new Manual Guide i shop floor programming tools, and the latest maintenance and diagnostic features of the new Series 30i CNCs.

Performance
With a goal of “Turbo Charging” the performance of machine tools currently on the plant floor, GE Fanuc will feature five-axis and high-speed machining capabilities, retrofit solutions for existing machines, cycle time reduction by up to 40 percent with i AdaptTMadaptive control software, and additional demos highlighting machine optimization for improved performance. GE Fanuc will include live machine demonstrations.

Quality
As a leader in Six Sigma methodology, GE Fanuc can help manufacturers take the first critical step on the road to continuous improvement: data collection and analysis. GE Fanuc’s i CELLOEE Shop Floor Intelligence software will feature connectivity to several machines in other booths at IMTS and showcase powerful data collection, analysis and display capabilities. Quality-related demonstrations will also include turnkey probing solutions, demonstrations of the high quality machining features of the latest GE Fanuc CNCs, and machine compensation functions to maintain the accuracy of older machines.

Automotive (OEE Summing Area)
In a special automotive area, GE Fanuc will bring together its OEE-enhancing solutions to demonstrate a best-in-class plant application. Attendees will see:
• A simulated dial index control system featuring the new Series 30i CNC with 32 motors and eight spindles;
• An assembly application suite based on CIMPLICITY® Machine Edition software and a PACSystems™ RX3i programmable automation controller (PAC) with a new motion control module;
• An automotive body shop application featuring CIMPLICITY Machine Edition software with Ethernet I/O connections and a PACSystems RX7i;
• CIMPLICITY Manager software providing backup and restore to CNCs and PLCs; and
• GE Fanuc’s Proficy™ Plant Applications manufacturing execution systems (MES) software – which enables plant managers to gain clear insight into production processes to more efficiently manage their operations and achieve peak performance.

Additionally, GE Fanuc will introduce the newest models in the Series 30i family of CNCs – including the new Series 31i and 32i CNCs – as well as well as the new 0i-C family of controls. GE Fanuc will also feature several demos of new and advanced servo technologies.
