Edmonton, AB – December 13, 2005 - Matrikon Inc. (TSX:MTK) today announced that a global pulp and paper company has standardized on ProcessDoctor as part of its continuous improvement initiative for reducing paper mill variability. ProcessDoctor, Matrikon's solution for monitoring and optimizing the assets that control plants, will be rolled out to 20 sites across North America.

ProcessDoctor enables paper mills to simultaneously and continuously monitor and analyze hundreds of regulatory control loops to identify and diagnose poor performers and failing equipment before the problem becomes costly.

Chris Rogers, director of global pulp and paper solutions at Matrikon stated: “In today’s business climate of rapid change, constrained resources and global competition, pulp and paper companies need to focus on extracting value from existing assets to improve performance and profit margins. Matrikon’s technology assists pulp and paper companies in achieving sustained benefit from their existing automation systems by reducing variability and unscheduled downtime and improving the ability to control product quality.”

The value of ProcessDoctor was proven at a few paper mills prior to the corporate license agreement. At one plant, the efficiency improvements to a single generator resulted in an annual cost savings of approximately $400,000 within months of implementing ProcessDoctor. At another plant, steam loss reductions on a paper machine condenser represented an annual cost savings of $150,000. These results validated the pulp and paper company’s selection of ProcessDoctor as the corporate standard for automated regulatory monitoring.

ProcessDoctor is a total solution for identifying opportunities to improve control performance and subsequently ensuring control performance is maintained at optimal levels. Plant profitability, both in terms of revenue generated and cost to produce, is a direct result of control performance. ProcessDoctor provides a unified platform for detecting and correcting problems, benchmarking and improving control performance and reducing maintenance costs through a condition-based approach.
