Honeywell Complies With European Atex Directive
Limit Switches See Expanded Use in Europe and North America

FREEPORT, Ill., October 16, 2003 — Honeywell [NYSE: HON] Sensing and Control announces that key products in the Explosion-proof family comply with the European ATEX Directive. Honeywell products with ATEX approval can be sold and used anywhere in Europe without further requirements being applied.

Commonly used in North America, the BX, CX-E (larger, weather-sealed limit switches), and 14CE100 (smaller, enclosed limit switches) can now see expanded use in countries governed by the ATEX directive. The 14CE100 Series with a strong presence in Europe can also see expanded use in North America.

As of July 1, 2003, all Explosion-proof enclosed limit switches sold into Europe are required to comply with the European Directive on Equipment and Protective Systems Intended for Use in Potentially Explosive Atmospheres (94/9/EC) commonly referred to as the ATEX Directive.

Honeywell customers can now use these products in global equipment and applications containing a potentially explosive atmosphere such as: fixed offshore platforms, petrochemical plants, mines, flour mills and other areas. This makes it easier for companies serving the global market to take the risk and high cost out of system critical sensing and control.
