Honeywell Introduces New Business.FLEX Solutions for Improved Decision Making and Manufacturing Execution

PHOENIX, Arizona, February 13, 2002 — Honeywell [NYSE:HON] Industry
Solutions has introduced a new release of its Business.FLEX® software solutions that enable significant and sustainable improvements in plant performance. The new Business.FLEX 110 empowers employees in the process industries to make better business decisions and improve execution—leading to increased plant efficiency and profitability.

Business.FLEX solutions allow enterprise objectives to be effectively executed at the manufacturing level, converting business objectives into operational targets and then returning validated production data to “close the loop” on the business planning cycle. With this capability, companies can typically increase production by 2 to 5 percent and decrease costs by 0.5 to 1 percent.

Tom Fiske, Director of Research for the ARC Advisory Group, said, “The new release of Business.FLEX takes organizations to the next level of performance by laying the foundation for a collaborative manufacturing environment that increases information visibility and production flexibility to increase profit opportunities. Business.FLEX solutions clearly addresses the needs of the process industries by allowing companies to take advantage of spot opportunities, improve planning processes, enhance supply chain execution, boost operational efficiency, and increase profitability.”

The Business.FLEX 110 release allows customers to better identify and capitalize on changing market opportunities through greater collaboration with others. New Web-based reports provide a cost-effective way to share valued information across the organization for improved decision making. In addition, new graphical configuration tools provide easier implementation and reduce the overall cost of ownership.

Other customer-driven enhancements include process-monitoring
improvements, improved workflow for managing process targets, and new tools for managing material movements and inventory.

Virginia Burnell, Vice President and General Manager of Honeywell Industry Solutions’ Energy Business, said, “Business.FLEX solutions are an important part of Honeywell’s recently announced Collaborative Manufacturing Strategy. The solutions provide customers with the visibility to identify opportunities, the agility to translate these opportunities into profitable business and operating decisions, and the real-time execution capability to achieve set process targets safely.”

The five Business.FLEX solution suites include:
- The Operations Management solution, which systematically sets and
communicates operating plans, monitors process data against limits, and highlights priorities on deviations, and provides complete laboratory information management system (LIMS) capabilities
- The Production Management solution, which calculates plant production, material use, and inventory; tracks product heritage and feed disposition; tracks production costs; highlights production problems; and manages production recipes
- The Blending solution, which delivers optimum in-line blending and
maximum profits for plants by providing and executing formulations that meet inventory constraints, delivery schedules, and product specifications
- The Movement Automation solution, which schedules, controls, monitors, and reports on material movements throughout a manufacturing complex
- The Advanced Planning and Scheduling solution, which aligns planning with corporate objectives, prepares an optimal plan, transforms the plan into a production schedule, and establishes operational targets for meeting the schedule. It also offers functionality to perform multi-site planning.

Business.FLEX solutions are currently in use at more than 400 oil and gas, refining, petrochemical, chemicals, mining and minerals, and pulp and paper facilities throughout the world.
