Honeywell Receives Order from CNOOC for Integrated Automation Solution on Offshore Platforms in South China Sea

Phoenix, Arizona, August 22, 2002 — The Industry Solutions business of Honeywell [NYSE:HON] Automation and Control Solutions said it has received an order from CNOOC Limited for an integrated automation solution on the company’s Dong Fang 1-1 offshore platforms located in the South China Sea near Hainan province.

The Honeywell system, to be installed starting later this year, includes PlantScape® distributed control, FSC® safety management, fire and gas control, and satellite/fiber optic communication. The turnkey project includes all application engineering and site commissioning.

As one of China’s primary companies in the energy business, CNOOC has responsibility for the exploitation of the country’s offshore petroleum and natural gas resources. The Dong Fang 1-1 platforms now under construction are in the Yingghehai area, which contains China’s largest gas field and where the country is planning rapid growth in production over the next 5 years.

Mr. Li Ning, General Manager of CNOOC Limited’s Engineering Department, said, “We selected Honeywell because of its demonstrated capabilities in providing advanced, integrated offshore platform solutions. They offered us a superior solution with field-proven advanced technology, backed by a strong project engineering and management team. We look forward to working with Honeywell in the successful implementation of the Dong Fang 1-1
platforms’ automation system and establishment of a long-term

Brian Strauss, Vice President of Energy for Honeywell Industry Solutions, said, “We’re particularly pleased with the opportunity to team with CNOOC in their development of the Yinggehai gas field. We see this project as a key step to cooperation with CNOOC in additional projects being planned.” Output gas from the Dong Fang 1-1 platforms is scheduled for use by Hainan ’s fertilizer plant, power plant, and city terminals. The project was awarded to Honeywell when CNOOC became convinced Honeywell offered the best solution, and a major competing supplier could not fully meet requirements.
