Honeywell to Supply Experion PKS for Botnia's Pulp Mill

July 062005
PHOENIX, July 6, 2005 - Honeywell (NYSE:HON) and Botnia have undersigned a letter of contract under which Honeywell will supply the entire automation system for Botnia's new pulp mill. The contract is valued at $7 million. The pulp mill is currently under construction in Fray Bentos in western Uruguay and is scheduled for startup in the third quarter of 2007.

Honeywell technology is expected to ensure efficient pulp production and help the mill produce one million tons of bleached eucalyptus pulp annually. "Botnia wanted to equip the mill with the very latest technology to ensure minimal environmental emissions, outstanding production efficiency and optimal pulp quality," said Mr. Jouko Kotilainen, project manager for Botnia. "We chose Honeywell to supply the automation system because of the company's extensive portfolio of products and services and in-depth expertise in pulp processes. Honeywell also had a strong service organization in South America."

The contract calls for the installation of a Honeywell Experion® Process Knowledge System (PKS), quality controls for two drying machines and an OptiVision(tm) system. Experion collects and integrates process and business data across the entire facility, making information and knowledge available where and when needed, so operators can make the right decisions quickly. The drying machines have quality control systems to control the pulp web moisture and thickness. OptiVision will monitor the mill's production and quality data, generating related reports for various purposes.

"Honeywell continually invests in developing measurement and control technologies for pulp production processes," said Mark Neas, vice president and general manager of Honeywell Process Solutions Americas. "We also strive to serve our clients as efficiently as possible all over the world and for the duration of their automation system life cycles."

Oy Metsä-Botnia Ab is a forest industry company that was established in 1973. The company manufactures high-quality bleached pulp grades that are marketed under the Botnia name. Botnia is the second largest pulp manufacturer in Europe.
