Husky Energy Awards Operator Training System Contract to SimSci-Esscor

BREA, Calif., Dec. 2, 2002 -- SimSci-Esscor, an operating unit of Invensys plc, today announced the award of a new contract from Husky Energy to provide an operator training system (OTS) for Husky's Lloydminster Upgrader facility where project work will commence immediately.

Husky Energy ( is one of Canada's largest integrated energy and energy-related companies. Its Lloydminster Upgrader processes 77,000 barrels per day of heavy oil feedstock into high-quality, low-sulfur, low-nitrogen synthetic crude oil for Canadian and U.S. refiners for further refining into transportation fuels and other products.

SimSci-Esscor will provide engineering services including project
management, model development, validation, documentation and startup assistance for the crude unit OTS. SimSci-Esscor will also provide associated computer hardware and software licenses for its FSIM(TM) and DYNSIM(TM) plant operator training simulators.

"We selected SimSci-Esscor's OTS solution based on the company's track record of long-term product support, the flexibility of its operating training systems and the low-maintenance design of the FSIM simulation environment allowing us to easily keep the simulator current," said Len Langier, OTS technical lead for Husky Energy. "We anticipate significant economies from SimSci-Esscor's integrated suite of engineering design, simulation and optimization tools."

"This award is supported by the strength of SimSci and Esscor, now combined into one business unit, and the excellent performance of the Esscor OTS team in delivering high-performance simulators," said Ken Brown, vice president and general manager of SimSci-Esscor.
