Husky Injection Molding Systems and Matrikon™ Team Up to Deliver Plant Monitoring and Advanced Scheduling Solution

February 182005
Edmonton, AB—February 18, 2005—Matrikon Inc. and Husky Injection Molding Systems have introduced SmartLink, a user-friendly and easily adaptable plant monitoring and advanced scheduling solution designed specifically to optimize plant performance in the plastics injection molding industry.

Based on Matrikon's proven industrial automation software and Husky’s 50 years of injection molding experience, the plant monitoring solution enables plastics injection molding facilities to streamline their data collection processes resulting in increased uptime, productivity and quality of the entire plant.

The plant monitoring architecture uses Matrikon's MxNet™ and MxPTACi™ as the web-based user interface for process monitoring and production scheduling. The architecture provides a foundation for event notification, reporting, access to key performance data and remote diagnostics and equipment monitoring.

“What differentiates SmartLink from other plant monitoring products on the market is its simplicity and flexibility,” Mike Gould, Husky’s Vice President of Factory Planning, said. “The solution provides all levels of the organization access to real-time data of factory performance regardless of where they are located. This enables the right people to make fast decisions, evaluate performance and improve overall efficiency.”

Features of SmartLink include:

  • Process monitoring – Real-time monitoring of process variables and machine status, along with access to historical process data
  • Multi-vendor connectivity – Ability to connect to non-Husky machines and equipment
  • Instant Notification – E-mail and paging notification immediately alert decision makers of plant status
  • Constraint-based planning – The Advanced Planning and Scheduling module reduces the time needed to generate a schedule, and provides a production plan synchronized with tooling and maintenance
  • Optimum data storage – Proven database design compresses data, reducing the amount of data storage space required
  • Flexible architecture – unique architecture allows for additional modules to be easily added to meet ongoing needs as organizations change and grow

“Matrikon's solutions for industrial intelligence takes plant floor automation to the next level,” commented Amin Rawji, Executive Vice President, Matrikon. “They provide visibility to plant operations and equipment, enabling continual, automated monitoring and analysis to maintain optimal plant performance.”
