igus Announces Iglide J, Building Block Engineers Rely on in Designing a Motion Control System
EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. – October 21, 2004 – igus® Inc.’s iglide® J polymer blend is used throughout the plastic bearing manufacturer’s product lines. From plain bearings to linear bearings and guide systems, iglide J is the building block engineers rely on in designing a motion control system.

Iglide J plain bearings are available in a variety of shapes and sizes, including flange, thrust washer and sleeve. If an iglide J is not available in the size and shape a customer needs, igus will gladly custom mold a bearing to meet the exact requirements of the application. All iglide bearings are lubrication-free, maintenance-free and will not corrode.

Igus also uses iglide J for its DryLin® R linear bearings, which are an ideal substitute for traditional ball bearings, especially in harsh, debris-infested or wet environments. Iglide J also is the secret behind the sliding elements essential to igus’ DryLin linear guide systems. The DryLin family consists of DryLin T linear slides, DryLin N micro slides, DryLin W modular, compact slides, Quadroslide preassembled slide units and DryLin S anodized aluminum shafting, in addition to the aforementioned DryLin R linear bearings.

With the ability to handle speeds up to 1,969 feet per minute (fpm) in linear motion and 197 fpm in rotary motion, the iglide J polymer is ideal for both fast and slow moving applications. It can sustain temperatures from -58 to +194 degrees Fahrenheit and delivers maximum performance when installed on a soft shaft.

Igus has developed more than 16 different polymer blends it uses throughout its bearing and cable carrier product lines. The iglide suite of plastic bearings offer customers the choice of more than 6,000 inch and metric bearing sizes from stock. Iglide plastic bearings are a convenient, cost-effective alternative to bronze, metal-backed and custom injection-molded bearings. All iglide bearings are self-lubricating and maintenance-free. The plastic-based construction eliminates corrosion and delivers better vibration dampening than metal bearings.
