Kuehne + Nagel, Omron Electronics and Avicon Announce Successful Wal-Mart RFID Implementation

September 132005
Naugatuck, CT. September 13, 2005 – Kuehne + Nagel, Omron Electronics and Avicon announced today the successful implementation of the RFID compliance infrastructure and business processes for Omron Healthcare in support of Wal-Mart’s electronic product code mandates. Shipments of Omron Healthcare’s leading healthcare devices, such as blood pressure monitors, electronic thermometers and pedometers have been tagged with electronic product code (EPC) tags at the case and pallet level and have been successfully received in retail distribution centers.

Omron Healthcare partnered with Kuehne + Nagel, a leading global logistics provider, to create a scalable outsourced solution to meet RFID requirements, leveraging Kuehne + Nagel’s third-party logistics services. Kuehne + Nagel, together with Avicon, a premier RFID solutions company, selected Omron Electronics RFID hardware V740 UHF Reader / Writer in combination with Avicon’s epcExpress™ RFID software framework to create a cost-effective solution that integrates closely with Kuehne + Nagel’s logistics management systems.

“Omron Electronics provided us with a great set of EPC-compliant RFID interrogators and antennas that gave us superior performance and flexibility in the warehouse environment,” said Marc Linster, CEO of Avicon.

“Avicon’s in-depth knowledge of RFID technology and the supply chain business processes proved a great advantage to completing this project on time,” said Ray Blum, director, contract logistics integrations, for Kuehne + Nagel in the United States.

“Using Kuehne + Nagel as our outsourcing provider for contract logistics, in combination with Avicon’s RFID expertise, provided Omron Healthcare with a very expedient, cost effective and efficient RFID implementation that positions us as a leader in innovative supply chain solutions,” said Mike Mobley, acting vice president of supply chain management for Omron Healthcare. “Integrating with the leading retailers’ world-class supply chain processes is a key asset for Omron Healthcare in the retail marketplace where we provide leadership through our products and our best-in-class business processes,” said Mobley.
