Paradox Engineering signs distributor in Norway

October 2, 2011 - Paradox Engineering signs Tormatic AS as its distribuotr of end-to-end wireless sensor network and smart metering solutions. Tormatic AS is a Norwegian company distributing automation, processing, instrumentation and calibration technologies for industrial groups, energy and oil & gas companies, with more than 40 years of experience.

By this partnership, Tormatic AS will distribute and implement Paradox Engineering's solutions in Norway and will at first focus on PE.WSNi, the wireless sensor network solution for industrial data acquisition, and PE.AMI, the innovative solution to enable smart metering and smart grid projects.

PE.WSNi represents the ideal technology to seize the opportunity of the growing wireless sensor network solutions market, which is expected to rise worldwide from $0.45 billion in 2011 to $2 billion in 2021 (source: IDTechEx, August 2011), with significant increases in all European countries including Norway. Wireless sensor networks are already used for condition and remote monitoring of industrial plants and energy infrastructures. Interesting applications to come include the automatic monitoring of forest fires, avalanches, hurricanes, failure of country wide utility equipment, traffic, hospitals and any other kind of monitoring over wide areas.

PE.AMI is at the forefront of smart metering technologies, whose penetration in Europe is expected to grow 26% by the end of 2017, keeping the pace with energy efficiency objectives set by the European Union. Norway has mandated the roll-out of smart meters across the country by the end of 2016 and has recently standardized related protocols. It’s the first step to build energy efficiency projects and smart grids implementations, shaping smart cities through innovative applications for public transportation, water and waste management.

“The agreement with Tormatic AS represents a significant step in Paradox Engineering’s growth path. We are extending our international reach by selecting the best partners to serve customers around the world with our turnkey solutions, the highest quality and service levels. We’re now ready to address the Norwegian market with an experienced and qualified partner such as Tormatic AS”, states Gianni Minetti, CEO at Paradox Engineering. “By sharing our competences and expertise, we’ll be able to offer Norwegian companies a competitive set of wireless sensor network and smart metering solutions”.

“Tormatic AS has for years supplied various types of sensors and automation products for industrial niche markets such as oil and gas, marine, heavy manufacturing, electric power, etc. Over the last years we have seen the opportunity to move to wireless solutions for data collection and transport, and we are glad to collaborate with Paradox Engineering. Our customers will appreciate open standards, interoperability and future-proof systems, which are main competitive advantage of Paradox Engineering’s solutions”, adds Tor Øystein Edvardsen, Managing Director, Tormatic AS.

Paradox Engineering and Tormatic AS will share resources to develop joint business development and marketing activities for Norwegian customers.

Paradox Engineering solutions aim at moving data not people, therefore helping customers to take the highest advantage from their data and transforming them into value.

PE.WSNi is a unique modular cost effective wireless mesh sensor network platform for industrial data acquisition. It represents the most valid alternative for condition and remote monitoring when conventional wired infrastructures are too complex or too expensive to implement, as often experienced in industrial plants, energy and oil & gas installations. PE.WSNi guarantees flexibility of design, reduced costs, better power management, ease of maintenance and easy deployment, enabling continuous and predictive asset monitoring.

PE.AMI is the new solution for the specific needs of utilities and multi-utilities, providing a unified communication platform to enable smart metering and smart grid infrastructures. PE.AMI allows multi-utilities to manage advanced information from any type of meter (water, gas, electricity) and has a full range of applications from AMR and remote control of distribution networks, to street lighting, solid waste, traffic, public transportation and parking management.

PE.WSNi and PE.AMI are the first solutions on the market based on IETF open standards (6lowPAN) on sub-GHz ISM band for higher penetration and noise immunity. Both feature ultra low power technology and represent a fault tolerant, self organizing, self healing and adaptive solutions. They stand the harshest conditions (IP67/68 and ATEX certified) and can be quickly and easily interfaced with any type of existing sensor, meter or infrastructure.
