Pepperl+Fuchs acquires intrinsic safety instrumentation business from Cooper

July 24, 2006 - TWINSBURG, OH – On July 7, 2006, Pepperl+Fuchs acquired the Intrinsic Safety Instrumentation (ISB) business from Cooper Crouse-Hinds, a division of Cooper Industries. ISB is located in Buehl, Germany. Both parties agreed not to disclose the purchase price.

“With this acquisition, Pepperl+Fuchs has further underlined its ambition to maintain and extend its leading position in the international market of Fieldbus connectivity and intrinsic safety protection technology for process automation industries,” said Jim Bolin, Pepperl+Fuchs Corporate Operations Officer.

Cooper Industries is a $5 billion (US) company headquartered in Houston, TX, dealing with electrical products and tools, among others. The ISB activity was originally a business unit of CEAG, a company Cooper acquired in 1995. CEAG had set up the ISB business by migrating the companies Digitable and Apparatebau Hundsbach, and their own activities at the facility in Buehl, Germany.

The products manufactured by ISB, including Remote I/O, DIN Rail devices and Zener Diode Barriers fit well with the core offerings of Pepperl+Fuchs’ Process Automation division, making the acquisition an attractive extension for both the Components+Technology and Systems+Solutions business units. The hazardous location Remote I/O system and the Ex-Hub fieldbus interface device will give Pepperl+Fuchs the opportunity to fill gaps in their current portfolio and to strengthen their market leadership position in new technologies. The goal of the integration is to continue the major product lines and to provide a seamless supply to its customers with product manufactured at the facility in Buehl. Pepperl+Fuchs will continue the production and retain all employees of the former ISB business unit.

Pepperl+Fuchs is a world leader in the design, manufacture and application of high quality process automation products and services. Pepperl+Fuchs is the number one provider of hazardous area technology from intrinsic safety to purge and pressurization, on-line corrosion monitoring and Fieldbus.
