Phoenix Contact Announces Steeplechase VLC Version 7.0 Enables Scalable PC-Based Control

May 262005
Harrisburg, Pa. - The newest version of Steeplechase VLC from Phoenix Contact makes PC-based control scalable by providing easy implementation of the company’s new embedded controllers as well as providing enhancements for project development and maintenance.

The new Steeplechase VLC Version 7.0, available in July, includes the ability to download runtime programs to embedded controllers such as the new ILC 350 VLC and S-MAX VLC. These new controllers have Steeplechase VLC runtime built in and are ready to plug-and-play. The ILC 350 VLC (without a display) and the S-MAX VLC (with several display configurations) replace the traditional PLC with the programming flexibility and easy development available only with PC-based control.

User-friendly techniques for defining, editing, and monitoring I/O have been implemented into this new version of VLC. A new connection panel displays a tree view, much like Windows Explorer, that shows PC I/O interfaces, the devices connected to them, and I/O tags associated with devices. The tree allows users to easily add, delete, copy, modify, and view any interface, device, or I/O tag. Closely associated with the connection panel are a new connection editor and tag editor. Each of these windows provides complete backward compatibility with previous VLC versions, while simultaneously enhancing productivity by providing new capabilities in conjunction with the connection pane.
