Rockwell Automation Announces Class I Division 2 UL Listing for Allen-Bradley® PanelView™ Product Line

UL listing reduces installation time and expense for PanelView™ users in oil refineries, petrochemical processing, and pharmaceutical manufacturing industries

INTERPHEX, March 31, 2003— To help customers save time and reduce the cost of equipment certification, Rockwell Automation has announced that its Allen-Bradley® PanelView™ line of operator interface products has received the Underwriters Laboratories (UL) listing for Class I Division 2 locations in the United States and Canada. As a UL-listed product, PanelView meets the U.S. National Electric Code and the Canadian Electrical Code standards of certification for hazardous location equipment installations.

With its Class I Division 2 rating, PanelView products can help ensure safe operation of electronic equipment in hazardous applications where flammable liquids, gases or vapors exist, but are usually confined. Industries such as oil refining, petrochemical processing or pharmaceutical manufacturing often require automated equipment capable of meeting the demands of these hazardous locations.

“Without the appropriate UL listing, companies spend an average of $5,000 to have their installation re-certified to meet their hazardous locations requirements,” said Clark Kromenaker, marketing manager, Rockwell Automation. “For end users, machine builders and OEMs who spend time searching for the components with the right ratings to build their machines, having this certification is a significant time and money saver.”

The PanelView operator terminals offer rugged electronic interface solutions in a variety of sizes and configurations from a stand-alone single system to multi-layer, enterprise-wide solutions. Each system is capable of providing process information over a variety of communication protocols via DeviceNet™, ControlNet™, Data Highway Plus™, Remote I/O, DF1 (RS-232), DH-485, Profibus, and Modbus™.
