Rockwell Automation complies with National Fire Protection Association 79 (NFPA 79) 2002 Code Changes

MILWAUKEE, Dec. 16, 2002 — Complete Automation® leader Rockwell Automation has announced that the Allen-Bradley® Rotary Disconnects will comply to new changes in the 2002 edition of NFPA 79 for the Electrical Standard for Industrial Machinery. This new code became effective in November 2002.

New 2002 NFPA 79 changes require rotary switches to be operable without the use of accessory tools or devices (independent of door position). This code also includes an interlocking provision to prevent the closing of disconnects while the enclosure door is open, unless an interlock is operated by a deliberate action.
Bulletin 194R Fused and Non-Fused Rotary Disconnects will meet NFPA 79 requirements and customer preferences with 2 styles. New front-mount with internal handle and side-mount handle designs meet the purpose of the NFPA 79 changes, creating a safer application of rotary disconnects.

The front-mount version uses a new internal handle kit that assembles directly to the 194R disconnect switch. The handle shaft is cut to size and the securing pin inserted, just as before. No additional installation is required. The handle kit is also offered for field installations on existing applications. For customers preferring side handle applications, the new bracketed design of the side-mount version installs to the enclosure. The handle attaches as before, but now is operable with side-actuation. These new designs are cost-effective NFPA 79 solutions offering quick and easy installation.
