Rockwell Automation Enhances ProcessLogix Distributed Control System to Improve Plant Floor Visibility and Speed Application Development

May 132004
MILWAUKEE, May 13, 2004 - Rockwell Automation has released a new version of its Allen-Bradley ProcessLogix distributed process control system (DCS) featuring software technology that allows manufacturers with multiple control disciplines to standardize on a single human-machine interface (HMI) to view plant floor operations. In addition, the new release includes DeviceNet network design and configuration features that allow for faster application development.

"Manufacturers continue to demand improvements in distributed control system technology," said David Bachman, Product Manager, Rockwell Automation. "We've met those demands by continuously enhancing our ProcessLogix distributed control system. This latest release enables manufacturers to rely on a single HMI for our entire control integrated architecture and addresses the trend towards greater use of smart devices by streamlining DeviceNet configuration."

This Allen-Bradley ProcessLogix Release 510 interfaces with Rockwell Software FactoryTalk technology to fully integrate process applications with Rockwell Software RSView Supervisory Edition HMI software. FactoryTalk is a scalable manufacturing information platform that integrates plant-wide control systems and connects the enterprise with the production facility. In addition, ProcessLogix Release 510 features a DeviceNet wizard that simplifies communication configuration with a wide range of existing ODVA-compliant plant floor devices. This can speed application development, reduce engineering time and minimize the opportunity for operator error. Before this enhancement, users manually re-entered programming code from the Rockwell Software RSNetworx configuration and diagnostic tool into the ProcessLogix system.

Additional enhancements include an expanded suite of 10 Allen-Bradley FLEX I/O modules to the ProcessLogix system. Now, based on their requirements, manufacturers can cost-effectively select a distributed I/O subsystem based entirely on the FLEX I/O platform. ProcessLogix Release 510 is available immediately.
