News, brochures, white papers, now available; literature fulfillment planned

PALATINE, Ill. – March 24, 2004 – The new Schneider Electric News mobile information channel enhances customer service by giving Schneider Electric personnel and customers access to product information, company expertise and news via handheld personal digital assistants (PDAs) and “smart phones.”

By using the AvantGo® service, Schneider Electric News is available free of charge to any registered user with a mobile device. It includes product news, company and brand news, application case studies, expertise articles and news about Schneider Electric’s other tools for handheld devices, such as voltage drop and transformer calculators. Designed initially for sales and marketing staff, the new service is accessible to customers any time, from anywhere. They can access it directly or through their Schneider Electric sales and marketing contacts. Users can make updates either via wireless network or through standard synchronization of the PDA or smart phone with a desktop or laptop PC.

“Using the AvantGo service is a convenient option for delivering product and company information to the hands of existing and potential customers, as well as automating some of the ways we do business,” said Tim Hunter, Schneider Electric marketing communication manager. “It allows us to put company and industry information in the palms of their hands, with no costs to them. Now, anyone can learn how to maintain long-term reliability in critical power applications or how to reduce arc flash incidents, or read about new products, from anywhere they carry their PDA or smart phone.”

AvantGo is a free service that delivers personalized web sites to PDAs and smart phones. AvantGo offers anywhere, anytime access, seamlessly supporting both wireless and “sync and go” connectivity.

Hunter said that Schneider Electric plans to add a pocket version of its Digest of Square D® products, and product literature fulfillment to the Schneider Electric channel. “Adding fulfillment capability would enable our mobile sales force to order a limited quantity of literature from wherever they are,” he said. “Customer information and literature identification numbers will reach our literature fulfillment center seamlessly, and the literature will be sent to the customer within a few days.”

Registering for the service is simple, and begins by logging on to www.avantgo.com. People without accounts will create one at no charge, then follow simple directions to create a channel layout. They will then locate the Schneider Electric channel by searching with the words “Schneider” or “Square D,” or by choosing the “Business/Finance” category, then selecting “Industry Related.” Then they will select the Schneider Electric channel which appears on the third list page.
