Siemens Introduces New SITOP Modular Redundancy Module for Uninterrupted 24VDC Power in Critical Processes

October 262004
ATLANTA (October 25, 2004) – Siemens Energy & Automation’s new DIN-rail mounted, SITOP Redundancy Module provides a heightened level of security in processes where uninterrupted 24VDC power is critical.

Enclosed in a robust metal housing, two integrated diodes disconnect the power supply in the event of a failure. Each redundancy module can decouple two of Siemens 5, 10, or 20 amp SITOP Modular power supply units. For a redundant operation of our 24 VDC/ 40 A units 2 redundancy modules are required.

“By using two power supply units connected in parallel and linked via redundancy modules, it is now possible to implement redundancy for 24 VDC control circuits as well,” said Kai Bronzel, Siemens SITOP product manager. “Our redundancy module immediately recognizes a drop of 24 VDC below a critical level, which can be set by the customer and ensures that the back up power supply takes over without interruption.”

A green LED indicates normal operation of the connected power supply units. The operating status can also be identified by a floating relay contact that triggers alarm messages.
