Siemens Scalance W Offers Unique Wireless LAN Solution
ATLANTA (March 15, 2006) – Siemens Energy & Automation has introduced the Scalance™ W wireless LAN that combines the convenience of wireless access with patented data reservation for critical clients, and the high level of security required by today’s businesses.

Scalance W is the only wireless LAN that allows users to operate over three wireless protocols in one system. With data rates of up to 54 Mbits/second and open standards of security all in one device, Scalance W operates at speeds of 2.4 GHz (802.11b and 802.11g) or 5 GHz (802.11a). The system also has deterministic control and is easily deployed.

Scalance W is the only wireless product family on the market that delivers a complete industrial wireless LAN (IWLAN) solution by providing access points, client modules, varying types of antennas, power supplies, cables and connectors.

I/O Control
Scalance W was designed for engineers looking for wireless I/O solutions in hard to reach automation environments, fulfilling industrial performance requirements for vibration, temperature, protection against unauthorized access, and data encryption.

“The industrial grade of Scalance W access points eliminates enclosure costs and gives users installation flexibility, allowing our access points to be mounted directly on factory floor, machines, ceilings, or roofs,” said Raj Rajani, Siemens Ethernet infrastructure product marketing manager.

Scalance W incorporates all of the convenient features of wireless access and pushed them to the next level by incorporating superior data security, deterministic control for priority client and the flexibility of 802.11b/g/a open standards – all components that today’s top companies demand in a state-of-the art LAN system.

High Security
Siemens’ Scalance W also alleviates the concern control engineers may have about the security of wireless products. Advanced industry standard security features are designed into the new system and are easily managed without special training. Scalance W has an extremely high degree of protection from unauthorized access, Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) security, and Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) with 128-bit long encryptions – all features that guarantee high security.

Durable and Dependable
Other benefits of the robust Scalance W wireless LAN solution include highly reliable structural integrity, ability to operate at temperatures between -20°C and +60°C, and superior IP 65 protection against dust, water and foreign bodies. With its free web based management tool and fast commissioning, Scalance W is easily configured and deployed, thus reducing the total cost of ownership.
