Siemens’ Innovative Service 1-2-3 Training Enhances Automated Systems Expertise

January 272004
ATLANTA (Jan. 27, 2004) – A new cross-training approach from Siemens Energy & Automation gives engineering and maintenance professionals the tools and understanding to commission, troubleshoot, and upgrade automation projects from top to bottom.

Siemens’ SERVICE 1-2-3 is a series of training courses addressing performance-improvement demands to optimize integrated automation systems. According to Siemens, the courses take a holistic, Totally Integrated Automation, approach to training and reduce the need for multiple component training sessions.

Training manager Rob Carper says Siemens’ SERVICE 1-2-3 accommodates the systems level training needs automation professionals are looking for.

“Engineering and maintenance professionals are less specialized these days,” Carper said. “Taking courses covering the PLC, drive, communications and networking speeds up their grasp of the total system. SERVICE 1-2-3 gets them up to speed quickly.”

Three hands-on instruction curricula focus on systems-level skill building for the entire automation system.

The three Siemens’ SERVICE 1-2-3 levels are:

  • S7 SERVICE 1 introduces students to Siemens Totally Integrated Automation (TIA) system. Commissioning, troubleshooting and upgrading the automation system are addressed, including the HMI, PLC, drive and communications networks.

  • S7 SERVICE 2 builds upon S7 SERVICE 1 training and introduces STEP7 software tools, helping students introduce new features, diagnostics and communications into new or existing automation projects.

  • S7 SERVICE 3 provides advanced training in control system commissioning, upgrading programs and system level troubleshooting. Students are challenged with control system debug and repair scenarios to build advanced automation experience.

The new SERVICE 1-2-3 classes complement the full line of Siemens automation, drive, power system and maintenance services training. For more information on the full range of training offered by Siemens, log on to www.sea.siemens.com/sitrain or call 800-241-4453.
