SimSci-Esscor Launches Next-Generation Heat Exchanger Simulation Solution

BREA, Calif., Nov. 22, 2002 -- SimSci-Esscor(TM), an operating unit of Invensys plc, today announced the introduction of the latest version of its Hextran(R) heat exchanger simulator for its new SIM4ME(TM) environment. Hextran is used in the refining, petrochemical, chemical, gas processing and engineering and construction industries.

SimSci-Esscor, a global leader in advanced process control, optimization and simulation solutions for the process industries, is offering the new version of its heat exchanger simulator as the first in a series of applications for SIM4ME. SIM4ME has been designed to help businesses build open solutions for the process industry and employs an enhanced graphical user interface featuring a full range of process engineering functions within a plant. Based on a model-centric approach, it is designed to host SimSci-Esscor's comprehensive solution offerings which include design operational analysis, dynamic simulation, operator training, on-line performance monitoring and real-time optimization.

SIM4ME has also been designed to support SimSci-Esscor's steady state and dynamic-modeling solutions, along with the full power of SimSci-Esscor's process optimization capabilities.

Hextran's standard features allow users to predict process outcome,

-- Easy-to-use graphical user interface for customer requested third-party links and software tools. This feature enables the seamless interchange of data between Hextran and other software technologies that augment and expand the capabilities of Hextran. -- Users can simulate heat-exchanger networks in addition to modeling individual exchanger units to investigate complex heat-transfer scenarios.
-- During post processing, users can build analytical graphical displays to assist in developing appropriate optimization decisions and solutions.
-- Analysis and review is enhanced through the generation of quick and easy Tubular Exchanger Manufacturers Association (TEMA) exchanger data sheets in both HTML and Excel formats.

As an integral part of the SIM4ME solution, the new 9.0 version of Hextran includes features that allow plant operators to more easily evaluate complex design, operational and retrofit situations enabling the development of new systems for maximum efficiency. Hextran includes an easy access to HRTI and HTFS programs. The simulation application also identifies problems before they occur, providing companies an opportunity to adjust processes accordingly. Hextran will serve as the core heat-transfer technology for the entire SIM4ME solution. Current Hextran users can easily upgrade to the powerful tools offered by Hextran for the SIM4ME environment.
