Supply Chain Systems Magazine Editors To Publish Special Issue On RFID & Wireless Technologies

May 062004
Peterborough, NH - Supply Chain Systems Magazine (SCS-Mag), the magazine for business decision makers who implement and approve complete systems for manufacturing/supply chain management, has announced that it will produce a special, stand-alone issue focusing on radio frequency identification (RFID) and wireless technologies and related software and solutions. In July, RFID & Wireless Systems will mail to 20,000 supply chain managers who are BPA-audited subscribers of SCS-Mag.

"RFID and wireless enable increasingly sophisticated and effective solutions for supply chain management," said David L. Andrews, publisher and editorial director of SCS-Mag. "Compliance initiatives related to RFID have increased demand, but companies are also expanding their use of wireless, LAN, and WAN."

"This issue will focus on solutions based on RFID and wireless, as well as the software such as warehouse management software (WMS), transportation management software (TMS), field service, and more that are the foundation for best-in-class supply chains."

Industry analysts are citing that:

Þ Corporate, IT, and operations managers are facing compliance initiatives in retail, government, and healthcare. Global spending on RFID systems will grow from 1.1 billion in 2003 to $2.1 billion by 2005 (Venture Development Corp.).

Þ 80% of firms are planning to expand their use of wireless in 2004 (Sage Research).

Þ Worldwide spending on wide-area wireless data products and services will reach $114 billion by 2008 (Strategy Analytics).

In RFID & Wireless Systems the editors of SCS-Mag will write in-depth about best business practices, technologies, and emerging trends related to RFID, wireless, and software, with a focus on manufacturing and service companies. An emphasis will be placed on providing information about benefits of the technologies specific to businesses, including return on investment and business metric data.

"Anyone involved in making decisions on supply chain systems and their efficiencies will be interested in this information," said Andrews. "If ever there were a need for this information it is now, when companies are being required to change and standardize."
