Symbol and Datalogic expand OEM partnership

BOLOGNA and HOLTSVILLE, N.Y., October 23, 2006 – Datalogic and Symbol Technologies announced an extension to their Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) agreement.

Under the terms of the five year agreement, which contains a five year renewal option, Symbol will be Datalogic’s exclusive supplier of laser scan engines and provide wireless technology. The contract’s total value is currently estimated to be up to $60-75 million over the five year term.

“The renewal of our contract with Symbol is a testament to the value Symbol brings to Datalogic and its customers,” said Roberto Tunioli, chief executive officer, Datalogic. “By extending and expanding our relationship with Symbol, Datalogic can redeploy resources and focus on product development and our core manufacturing and research initiatives.”

For the past 14 years, Symbol has supplied Datalogic with laser scan engines and radio cards which were embedded in Datalogic’s handheld scanners and mobile computers. The agreement announced today will enable Datalogic to rely on Symbol’s continued innovation and expertise in scan engines, wireless technology, and other mutually agreeable technologies.

With more than eight million scan engines installed worldwide, Symbol’s scan engines are designed to deliver peak performance and high reliability to ensure the accurate capture of information. Symbol’s scan engines provide quality, reliability, performance and durability for the scanning and decoding of one-dimensional (1D) or two-dimensional (2D) bar codes.
