Talk On Line with ABB Robotics Experts

March 13, 2013 - Early indicators suggest the robot industry set a new sales record in 2012. As the first quarter of 2013 gets underway, the U.S. robotics industry is experiencing continued momentum on the heels of exponential growth. The resurgence in the US automotive industry coupled with advancements in robotics technologies continues to spark demand across traditional and non-traditional industries. In the past year, robots with the ability to see and feel have broken the mold for the industry’s typical customer and wide-scale integration of the technology is expected to continue.

While sales are still largely driven by the automotive industry, Nick Hunt, Automotive Technology Manager for ABB Robotics, believes the industry’s record-breaking achievement is representative of the wide scale adoption of robot automation as well as the advancements in robot sensor technology.

"ABB robots are handling parts that range from tiny semiconductor slivers to packages of snack crackers to large truck frames and everything in between,” said Hunt.  “Now we are seeing demand for robots in non-traditional applications, such as performances in live rock concerts like the Jon Bon Jovi Circle Tour.  We've had to create an entirely new programming methodology to support these new applications and a toll-free number catering specifically to this new application paradigm.”

This year, Hunt will share his insight on the technological impact of the industry’s exponential growth during the ABB Automation and Power World (APW) expo in Orlando, Fl., March 25 – 28. Hunt will join other ABB experts as part of the company’s Brainy Bunch, in which global thought leaders will discuss emerging power and automation issues. APW attendees as well as the general public can participate in the discussion by registering at http://brainybunchabb.webs.com to offer questions, feedback and interact in real-time.

About APW: 2013’s ABB Automation and Power World, March 25 – 28, is an annual four-day program that consists of educational workshops, technical training, customer case studies, application workshops, and panel discussions. This year, ABB will host a panel of companywide, global thought leaders as part of its Brainy Bunch who will offer  real-times discussions on the latest issues and emerging trends across the power and automation world. With over 130,000 square feet of power and automation equipment, over 400 educational training courses, and access to ABB and industry experts, Automation & Power World is the "must-attend" event to be introduced to the latest products, solutions, and cutting-edge technology and to learn how these solutions can positively impact your business.

About ABB: ABB is a leader in power and automation technologies that enable utility and industry customers to improve performance while lowering environmental impact.
