Woodhead Releases 3rd Generation DeviceNet™ Suite of High-Performance Network Interface Cards

November 172005
November 2005, Northbrook, IL USA. Woodhead Industries, Inc., a designer and manufacturer of industrial communication products for the automation world, has announced the release of its 3rd Generation DeviceNet Network Interface Cards (NICs) and Software Tools.

The DN3 NIC provides users with higher performance and improved flexibility for custom solutions. Several key features have been added that improve productivity and NIC status. A diagnostic software tool will ship with the DN3 cards to assist in commissioning SST™ DeviceNet scanner and generic slave devices.

Customers will see value in this product through various features such as CAN protocol API additions and Quick Connect. The DN3 cards will be available in PCI Universal bus, which is 3.3 – 5v operation, PC/104 and VMEbus platforms. Both the PCI and PC/104 formats are available in one and two channel versions and the VME in 1, 2 or 4 channels providing the user with the option of connecting to multiple DeviceNet networks from a single computer. The NICs run under Windows® XP, NT4, 2000 as well as several real-time Operating Systems.

Software tools are also available that enhance the SST DeviceNet network interface cards’ ability to support DeviceNet applications. A configuration console (SST-DN3-CNF), network analyzer (SST-DN3-DNA) and diagnostic tool (SST-DN3-DIA) round out the software tools currently available. The configuration console is used to configure a DeviceNet network and the OPC Server (SST-DN3-OPC). The network analyzer captures DeviceNet network activity which aids in troubleshooting and diagnosing device problems. The diagnostic tool provides card initialization tools and diagnostic information on scanner related activity. All tools are compatible with Microsoft® Windows® NT4, 2000 and XP. SST DeviceNet network interface cards compatible with these software tools are available in either PCI (3.3V/5V) or PC/104 bus format.

Woodhead is an active member of the Open DeviceNet Vendor Association (ODVA).
