Yokogawa Announces the Release of its Newest Version of CENTUM CS 3000

Yokogawa’s highly acclaimed extremely reliable integrated production control system, the CENTUM CS 3000 combines rugged control station and remote I/O hardware with a scalable Windows 2000/XP-based operation.

Yokogawa Electric Corporation announces the release of its newest version of CENTUM CS 3000, R3.05 for worldwide delivery in Nov 2005. New to this release is an upgrade to the control highway to a 1 GB network utilizing Yokogawa's deterministic protocol over Ethernet to provide an open platform for control and information providing high performance with low cost of ownership and a seamless technology migration to its installed base.

Yokogawa has adopted token passing control bus based upon the IEEE802.4 standard since release of the first DCS in 1975. Called Vnet, this bus technology was designed for high availability, high reliability, and deterministic response for large/wide scale configurations. From Yokogawa’s viewpoint, these functionalities were not achievable without proprietary hardware support, and 100Mbps Ethernet with CSMA/CD data link could not satisfy these requirements. Vnet was designed based upon the precepts of reliability to transmit information with credibility (failure, load, environment, noise, etc.) and to transmit Information within a deterministic time.

Yokogawa’s technology breakthrough provides an innovative control protocol on open network, to provide communication band partitioning, redundant communication on Ethernet, secured information exchange utilizing the latest technology on Yokogawa devices, and to take advantage of enhanced technologies in Ethernet switches by provide a stable and secure 1Gbps communications.

With this control bus innovation Yokogawa will provide a network that coexists with general Ethernet protocols on TCP/IP, that utilizes built-in standard protocols, such as simple network time protocol (SNTP) and simple network management protocol (SNMP), and uses commercial off the shelf network equipment such as switches, routers and optical fiber.

Called Vnet/IP, this upgraded network is a multiplexed band communication with a highly reliable, real-time and flexible protocol on the high-speed Ethernet media. Its communication band partitioning has a real-time band, that also provides 1 ms accuracy on sequence of events timestamp, and a TCP/IP Ethernet band partitioning for information both operating over a commercial 1Gbps switches. Its duplex bus architecture provides for encapsulated dual control bus across domains, fast switch-over and on-line self recovery control bus status monitoring.

The overall benefit for customers is a flattened communication architecture with greater flexibility in architecture and topologies. Positioned as “Enhanced (Encapsulated) Vnet”, Vnet/IP provides the open control network structure that is necessary as the common ground for the CENTUM evolution in the future. Users do not lose the desired advantages provided by Vnet. Control communication is still secure and reliable, priority communication control achieves secured response time, and communication band partitioning achieves co-existence of Vnet technologies and open communications.

The development of the CENTUM CS 3000 R3 series has been based on the concept of continually adopting new functions while maintaining continuity with existing functions. This control system has evolved in quick response to changing customer needs and through the ongoing development and introduction of leading-edge technologies. Examples include a new I/O subsystem in 2001, adopting Windows XP to the Human Machine Interface in 2002 and a new compact controller in the current release in 2003.


SCADA
Yokogawa has been a premier player in the SCADA market in Europe for many years. Utilizing its SCADA Human Machine Interface, called FAST/TOOLS, Yokogawa Europe has been very successful in the control of North Sea Platforms and other oil and Gas applications.

Now coupled with STARDOM, Yokogawa’s network-based control system introduced in 2002, a unique SCADA solution is offered that provides a smart remote terminal unit (RTU) in combination to its web-based FAST/TOOLS SCADA Human Machine Interface (HMI). Stardom provides an autonomous Java enabled controller allowing for networking versatility with flexible configuration based upon industry standards like IEC 61131-3 programming languages , OPC communication, and commercial off-the-shelf networking components to serve a scalable and widely geographical applications.



Production Management
Yokogawa’s Exaquantum software product, released in 2000, has been the core of its production information management system. It is an enabling platform for Yokogawa production management applications like data reconciliation, production accounting, performance monitoring, environmental monitoring, and operations electronic logbook as well as other 3rd party production software packages. Exaquantum provides an intelligent and scaleable platform for collecting, storing and displaying current and historical data from production equipment.

Additionally Exasmoc and Exarqe provide advanced process control functionality. Exasmoc is based upon Shell Global Solutions multivariable optimizing controller. Exarqe is a robust quality estimator that provides calculations to infer properties



Alarm Management
AAASuite is a comprehensive alarm management system that optimizes and enhances process alarms issued by process automation systems. AAASuite improves operator performance by providing timely notification of only necessary alarms, therefore, preventing alarm flooding and enabling safe, stable, and cost effective plant operations.

Features include nuisance alarm detection and diagnosis, dynamic alarm setting based upon startup, shutdown, product grade changeover, or process load change, nuisance alarm suppression, and alarm enhancement such as automatic generation of more value-added alarms including the periodic re-notification of critical alarms.



Asset Management
Plant Resource Manager (PRM) is Yokogawa’s solution for real-time device maintenance and management. PRM is an integrated software solution that unifies the monitored data from intelligent and non-intelligent field devices allowing the management and maintenance of these devices. PRM runs within the CENTUM CS3000 R3 and STARDOM control systems or as a stand-alone solution. The key feature of PRM is that it provides easy access to automatically collected data from field networks such as Foundation Fieldbus, and HART allowing integration, management and maintenance these devices using a common database.

PRM provides integrated plant and device performance data, maintenance records, audit trails, device configuration with auto-device detection, historic data management, parameter comparison, advanced device diagnostics information, and access to on-line documentation such as device drawings, parts list and manuals in a client server architecture that provides information to multiple users within a plant facility. It provides the ability to adjust the parameters of intelligent devices online and allows comparison of the current data to historical data of a device.
