ABB to supply cement plant in Honduras with Knowledge Manager

Baden, Switzerland, May 21, 2008 – ABB won an order from Polysius to supply Cementos del Norte with its Knowledge Manager Production Information Management System (PIMS). Knowledge Manager will be installed at Cementos del Norte’s plant in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. Polysius, a preeminent engineering and machinery company in the Cement and Mining Industries, will manage the overall project.

The installation will also include support for approximately 2000 signals and user training.

“Supplying ABB’s Knowledge Manager to Cementos del Norte is a great way for Polysius to be able to provide the plant with the solution they need to compliment and strengthen our project there,” commented a representative from Polysius. “This standard “off the shelf” solution is also flexible so the customer can tailor it to their own needs—it provides the best of both worlds for everyone involved.”

ABB’s Knowledge Manager provides all of the functions and components needed for industry specific process and quality data warehousing and focused information presentation. Part of ABB’s Collaborative Production Management suite, it provides real-time automated KPI’s, emission tracking and compliance certificates, and can incorporate several hundred users. Knowledge Manager’s PIMS includes data validation and period closing, as well as production management support together with energy and environmental reporting.

Engineering work for the project will be carried out in collaboration with Polysius. The scope of supply also includes training on the new system. Commissioning is scheduled to start in spring 2009.

Gabriela Petras Crosley, Product Manager for Knowledge Manager said “I'm looking forward to working with Polysius and Cemetos del Norte. The plant is making big changes with their capital investment and I can see that Knowledge Manager will help them benefit even more by providing an overview of all their relevant KPI’s to help them optimize their production.”

ABB's suite of Collaborative Production Management and products, provide productivity improvements to process automation companies.
