ABB to supply controls for new combined cycle plant in Thailand

May 13, 2009 - ABB recently won a multi-million dollar contract from Hyundai Engineering to provide System 800xA for control and integration of automation and electrical systems for PTT Chemical’s Electrical Power and Steam (EPS) Project. The new 114MW combined cycle power plant will be located at Map Ta Put, located at Rayong province, 200 kilometers southeast of Bangkok.

In addition, ABB will supply System 800xA for the control and monitoring of the two units of auxiliary boilers in the EPS project.

ABB has a successful working history with PTT Chemical through various existing installations. ABB was also awarded the contract to upgrade several existing systems to the latest 800xA platform; this underscores ABB’s long standing policy of continuous system evolution, with a commitment of protecting its customers’ previous investments.

Hyundai is the main contractor for all design, engineering, procurement, supply, construction, erection, commissioning and testing of the new power plant. ABB will supply System 800xA Extended Automation with integrated HART and asset optimization for full automation of the power plant, including the turbine generator area, boiler area, plant common and auxiliary boilers. System 800xA will integrate with ABB’s powerful plant information system, the Power Generation Information Manager (PGIM), which includes a historian and web server for remote access and seamlessly integrates with other control systems for comprehensive plant and monitoring purposes.

The scope of supply also includes ABB’s next generation System 800xA High Integrity controller (SIL3 certified) and IO module for an Emergency Shutdown System, for protection and safety.

ABB will also supply a new Load Shedding and Load Sharing System built on the System 800xA platform. By integrating process and electrical systems on the common 800xA platform, the customer will see additional benefits in reduced maintenance, engineering and overall lifecycle costs.

ABB will also be responsible for project management, system engineering, tests, site supervision services for erection, installation, and commissioning startup, as well as training. The project is scheduled to be completed by early third quarter of 2009.
