Epicor Mattec supplies MES to Guill Tool & Engineering

January 21, 2015 - Epicor Software announced that Guill Tool & Engineering will implement Epicor Mattec manufacturing execution system (MES) and integrate the solution with the latest Epicor enterprise resource planning (ERP) version 10.

With more than 50 years of experience and ISO 9001 certification, Guill supplies advanced extrusion tooling technology to the medical, rubber and plastic industries worldwide, as well as nuclear specialty alloy products to the defense industry, each with massive amounts of product variety. Operating in such a highly-complex and low-volume production environment required Guill to search for a solution that would enable complete real-time visibility of production scheduling and efficient manufacturing.

Epicor Mattec will provide Guill with a comprehensive set of MES capabilities for production scheduling, machine operation and maintenance, quality management, and real-time analytics to monitor machines and analyze machine-related data such as overall equipment effectiveness (OEE), run rates, scrap, yield, and more. The system captures data directly from machines and operators, and delivers real-time production metrics and operations analytics in an easy-to-digest visual manner.

"We have a long history of using the Epicor ERP solution and we're excited to implement Mattec MES to further achieve our manufacturing goals," says Chuck Paull, chief operating officer, Guill Tool & Engineering. "Reducing costly non-value added operations on the shop floor, such as rework and long set ups, is our highest priority."

Key to the success of creating a more modern manufacturing environment is seamless integration with the latest Epicor ERP 10. Guill will benefit significantly from improvements in promise to order, labor and equipment utilization, as well as business intelligence as a result of tighter integration and real-time feedback between Epicor ERP and Mattec MES.

"Improved scheduling and on-time delivery will be one of the major benefits of integrating our ERP and MES solutions into one centralized system," says Paull. "The speed of Epicor ERP 10 and the ease of building dashboards in a SQL-based environment are the key reasons we decided to upgrade. We believe that our software upgrade and integration plans will bring us closer to achieving our business and manufacturing objectives to work more efficiently and profitably."

"Breaking down information silos and facilitating greater transparency and collaboration across the enterprise -- from the shop floor to the top floor -- is a common challenge that the out-of-the-box integration between Epicor ERP and Mattec MES is helping our customers overcome," says Tom Muth, senior manager, product marketing, Epicor MES. "We look forward to continuing our successful partnership with Guill by providing innovative business software solutions that will enable more profitable improvements and efficiencies to their manufacturing operations."
