HANNOVER MESSE 2015 adds Additive Manufacturing Plaza

November 3, 2014 - HANNOVER MESSE 2015 is spotlighting additive manufacturing (AM) as an important theme. Starting next year, the Additive Manufacturing Plaza is included as a new special event in the Digital Factory fair. The leading global trade show for integrated processes and IT solutions is the perfect setting, because additive manufacturing relies on digital models as a prerequisite for automated production.

Additive manufacturing is an entirely new manufacturing approach that has gained huge significance in its few years of existence, in which material is not removed or deformed, but rather the digital product model is built up layer by layer. This form of manufacturing also enables the production of forms that cannot be made using traditional methods. Leading manufacturers of these machines, such as alphacam, ExOne, Kisters, RTC Rapid Technologies and voxeljet, have already been exhibiting at HANNOVER MESSE for years. Starting next year they have their own dedicated showcase within Digital Factory.

“The exponential growth of additive manufacturing technology is reflected by the Additive Manufacturing Plaza at Digital Factory. It is important to us to give exhibitors and visitors to this relatively young topic area an information and knowledge edge in international competition, which will help them generate new business,” says Marc Siemering, HANNOVER MESSE Senior Vice President at Deutsche Messe.

The special showcase provides initial answers to urgent questions such as: “What does a 3D model have to include to support additive manufacturing?”; “What is needed for this new process besides the 3D model of the product?”; “What kind of materials can be used, and on which machines?”; “For what products is additive manufacturing suited, and what shapes are possible that cannot be made using traditional machining or forming?”; “How much can we save with these new methods and how much do they cost?” Once they have picked up valuable orientation, plaza visitors can then approach participating exhibitors for more detailed answers, also at their individual stands.

About the Additive Manufacturing Plaza
The Additive Manufacturing Plaza consists of three parts: a themed showcase, a group pavilion and stands by individual key players. The plaza seamlessly covers everything involved: 3D modeling of parts to be manufactured, preparation of manufacturing data, production and post-production processing. The plaza is special in that it doesn’t just feature small-scale 3D printers and materials for home use, but rather industry-capable machines using standard materials encountered in actual industrial applications, including materials of appropriate hardness and other parameters.

HANNOVER MESSE – Get new technology first!
The world’s leading trade fair for industrial technology is staged annually in Hannover, Germany. The next HANNOVER MESSE will run from 13 to 17 April 2015 and feature India as its official Partner Country. HANNOVER MESSE 2015 will comprise ten flagship fairs: Industrial Automation • Motion, Drive & Automation (MDA) • Energy • Wind • MobiliTec • Digital Factory • ComVac • Industrial Supply • Surface Technology • Research & Technology. The upcoming event will place a strong emphasis on Industrial Automation and IT, Power Transmission and control, Energy and Environmental Technologies, Industrial Subcontracting, Production Engineering and Services and Research & Development.
