OSI Technology to provide SCADA to Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative

March 14, 2013 - Open Systems International (OSI) has been selected by Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative, Inc. to supply an advanced new Distribution Management System (DMS) for their members, based on OSI’s monarch (Multi-platform Open Network ARCHitecture) platform.

This distribution automation effort is part of Bluebonnet’s multi-year enterprise program, “Sustainable Grid” that will empower the coop to more efficiently and effectively respond to and manage outages and improve customer service.

Bluebonnet’s new OSI DMS system is set to include the advanced functionality presented by OSI’s.NET based Graphical User Interface (GUI); Advanced Alarm Management System; Advanced SCADA Functionality and DMS functionality such as Graphical Information Systems Interface; Volt/VAR Control; Fault Location, Isolation and Service Restoration; Three Phase Power Flow; and Switching Order Management software products, with standard system interfaces via DNP, SNMP, ODBC and MultiSpeak.

“OSI’s software is a powerful demand management system that will enable us to more rapidly restore power during outages and improve our distribution system’s reliability and efficiency,” said Matt Bentke, Bluebonnet’s Chief Operating Officer. “One of the reasons we chose OSI’s DMS is its ability to integrate into our other systems, including our outage management system and our geographic information system. This will allow us greater visibility into and more control over our entire distribution system.”

“We are very proud to have been selected to implement our Advanced Distribution Management solution at Bluebonnet. The DMS implementation at Bluebonnet will not only provide advanced distribution management capabilities of today but will also serve as a modern scalable platform for future expansion of automation and other smart grid applications,” said Hormoz Kazemzadeh, OSI’s Vice President of Distribution and Smart Grid.

Founded in 1939, Bluebonnet is one of Texas’ oldest and most respected electric cooperatives. Bluebonnet serves more than 82,000 meters and maintains 11,000 miles of distribution line in 14 Central Texas counties. Bluebonnet’s service area stretches from Travis County to Washington County and from Milam County down to Gonzales County.

OSI provides open, state-of-the-art and high-performance automation solutions to utilities worldwide. These solutions include Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems, Network Management Systems (NMS), Energy Management Systems (EMS), Distribution Management Systems (DMS) and Generation Management Systems (GMS); as well as individual software and hardware products and Smart Grid Solutions for utility operations. OSI is headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA.
