TMEIC to automate Chinese Steel Mill
January 10, 2014 - TMEIC will supply automation equipment and drives for a new pickle line and tandem cold mill at Chinese Bengang Steel Plates Co. Ltd. (Benxi). As part of Benxi’s new Cold Rolling Mill No.3, this facility will be producing high-quality grade steel for the automotive industry.
The five-stand six-high tandem cold mill will use the new combined CVC plus/ESS technology, and is designed for 1,000 to 2,150-mm wide strips, the first in the world to be able to process strips of this width. Gages from 0.3 to 2.5 mm will be produced. The total annual capacity will be approximately 2.3 million tons, including ultra-high strength and martensitic steel grades.
TMEIC is using the TM Advanced Control Solutions (TMACS) automation system. This uses a high-speed optical network and shared memory tightly integrating all production functions including Level 1 PLC control, Level 2 supervisory control, operator interfaces, field mounted I/O, and variable frequency drives. TMEIC will supervise installation of the equipment, carry out the commissioning, and system performance testing.
