Toshiba supplies Teli Cameras to Sightech machine vision system
September 18, 2008 - Toshiba Teli America announced that its FireDragon model CSFV90CC3 progressive scan camera with FireWire-B technology has been incorporated into the Sightech PC-Eyebot self-learning machine vision system, bringing improved throughput and accuracy to high-speed inspection applications ranging from automotive and packaging to semiconductors and biomedical.

A complete turnkey solution, the Sightech PC-Eyebot provides continuous "learning" and "forgetting," along with the capacity to simultaneously scan a subject item for a variety of defects before consolidating this information to make a PASS/FAIL decision.

The PC-Eyebot's patented Neuro-RAM algorithm learns to inspect products just by looking at them, so it is critical that the cameras deployed are of the highest quality. The FireDragon CSFV90CC3 meets the demanding criteria for image accuracy with a feature set highlighted by 640 x 480 full-frame resolution at 90 frames-per-second in 24bit color.

"With its revolutionary self-learning management, the PC-Eyebot represents an important breakthrough that improves the QC process and moves the entire machine vision industry forward," stated Doug Freck, President/CEO, Toshiba Teli America, Inc. "We are proud to have our FireDragon cameras contribute to the success of the PC-Eyebot."

Application: 360° Wrap-Around Inspection
One innovative application of the PC-Eyebot utilizing the FireDragon camera is providing 360° wrap-around inspection of containers and labels for bottling and canning lines.

This version of the PC-Eyebot direct mounts on Krones® labeling equipment to allow three rotational views to be captured by a single camera. The PC-Eyebot's ability to define multiple inspection areas, assign frame delays, and then apply sophisticated decision consolidation permits a result of a single PASS/FAIL decision per can or bottle. Even at production speed of 1400ppm, the vision system accurately detects dents, label shifts, missing labels, end flaps and other defects. Using proprietary frame-delay technology, the system will consolidate decision results from the separate areas so the ejection action always refers to the same can or bottle. Line changeovers and product variance are easily accommodated due to the PC-Eyebot's cumulative training function. Additionally, the system gives the user the option to archive up to 20,000 images of failed containers.
