WBF launches live webcast series for 2007

Research Triangle Park, NC (January 5, 2007) - Consistent with its history of providing quality educational programs to its members and the larger automation community, WBF announced today that the organization will be re-introducing its live webcast series in 2007.

The seminars will be held once per month and will cover introductory, advanced, and popular topics in the automation industry. The first four seminars in the series are complimentary for members, while non-members will be charged $95 per connection.

January's topic, Make2Pack - The Automation Revolution, will focus on the Make2Pack effort in the industry. The Make2Pack effort combines the modularity espoused by the ISA-88 batch standards and the work by the packaging industry's OMAC Packaging Workgroup (OPW). The committee is delivering detailed models and tag naming conventions to support the interoperability of automation on both process and packaging equipment from different vendors using different control platforms. The webcast, to be held January 31, 2007, will explain the latest work of the group, as well as the possible implications of the effort.

The Make2Pack revolution is an important concept in our industry right now, because the work done by this committee will reduce the time to create new automation for equipment and manufacturing, reducing the skills needed to support manufacturing. The end result could give businesses many more choices in selection of process, packaging and control equipment.

The February seminar, scheduled for February 21, 2007, is entitled "Introduction to ISA-88" and will focus on the widely used batch standards series from ISA. Although originally developed to address batch control issues, the ISA-88 series of standards is now being applied to continuous and discrete manufacturing, packaging lines and material storage facilities. The seminar will introduce the series and give attendees an understanding of its current uses and future implications.

The third seminar in the series, "BioReactor Process Modeling/PAT (Process Analytical Technology)" will be offered March 21, 2007. The seminar will discuss process analytical technology, including systems for designing, analyzing, and controlling manufacturing through timely measurement of critical quality and performance attributes of raw and in-process materials and processes. Attendees will gain a better understanding of process analytical technology, which helps to ensure final product quality.

April 18th's seminar will be based on the highly attended keynote address at the WBF European Conference. "Information Model Framework for Manufacturing Science" will discuss the body of scientific knowledge, regulations, and principles involved in the transformation of materials and information into products.

"Innovation in pharmaceutical manufacturing with faster development, faster new product release, robust process understanding, and improved quality by design is a key component of the FDA's 21st century manufacturing initiative," said Dennis Brandl of BR&L Consulting, who was one of the keynote presenters at the European Conference. "That's why this topic is so important to the industry, and we think attendees will get a lot out of this seminar."

Future seminar topics include "Integrating ISA-88 and ISA-95" and "Tips & Tricks to Applying ISA-88."
